Details: We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Consulting
Variant Scientist to join our dynamic Healthcare team. This role is
ideal for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in
biology, hematology, and hematological malignancy somatic variants.
The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experts
to provide consulting services to our clients in the healthcare
industry. This role is critical in supporting our clients' efforts
to develop and implement innovative healthcare solutions. Variant
Scientist (Research Data Analyst 4) Duration: 24 weeks Location:
Remote (laptop will be provided) We are looking for a candidate
with expertise in genetic data analysis, specifically in
hematological malignancies. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D.
or M.S. in a related field, such as human genetics, molecular
biology, cancer cell biology, or medical pharmacology. Candidates
should have hands-on experience with somatic variant
classification, particularly in the context of hematologic cancers,
and be familiar with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies.
The role requires strong communication skills, as the individual
will be drafting clinical reports and interacting with
multidisciplinary teams. We are targeting candidates with titles
such as Clinical Molecular Geneticist, Bioinformatician, Cancer
Genomics Scientist, or Molecular Pathologist, with experience in
clinical diagnostic labs or genomics research. Please focus on
candidates who can demonstrate a deep understanding of genetic
variant interpretation, proficiency in bioinformatics tools, and
the ability to troubleshoot data analysis challenges independently.
CANDIDATES MUST ANSWER THE BELOW QUESTIONS AND HAVE THEIR ANSWERS
IN THE BEGINNING OF THEIR RESUME. 1. Describe your experience
working with hematological malignancies and interpreting somatic
variants from genetic data: 2. How comfortable are you with
analyzing and interpreting genetic data from next-generation
sequencing (NGS) platforms, particularly in the context of cancer
or hematological malignancies? 3. How do you approach curating and
classifying somatic variants in a clinical diagnostic setting? What
tools or databases do you typically use? 4. Provide an example of a
time when you had to communicate complex genetic findings to a
non-expert (e.g., clinician, patient)? How did you ensure clarity?
5. Describe a situation where you had to troubleshoot a challenging
problem in genetic data analysis? What steps did you take to
resolve it? Required Experience: A Ph.D. or M.S. degree is required
in human genetics, molecular biology, neurogenetics, genetic
counseling, cancer cell biology, molecular pathology, medical
pharmacology, or other related fields. Experience in hematological
malignancy somatic variant classification is required. Though
laboratory techniques are not physically performed, the incumbent
must understand the techniques of laboratory genetics and genomics
(e.g. target capture/amplification and massively parallel
sequencing). Excellent communication and writing skills are
required. Must exhibit scientific creativity and routinely
demonstrate independent thought. Basic technical competency and
independency in evaluating and troubleshooting is required when
using Windows, MS Office, Teams, Zoom, VPN, etc. Job Summary The
Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories (MDL) at the Department of
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California,
Los Angeles, is seeking a clinical genomics variant scientist in
clinical diagnostics lab setting. The incumbent will be a key
member of a team of clinical laboratory scientists, molecular
biologists, medical geneticists, molecular pathologists, and
bioinformatics engineers working together to analyze and report
clinical molecular test results based on next-generation sequencing
(NGS) assays. The successful applicant will operate in two major
areas: (1) Variant curation and interpretation of somatic variants
detected by in-house Hematologic Malignancy NGS tests. (2) Clinical
report drafting. Job Qualifications A Ph.D. or M.S. degree is
required in human genetics, molecular biology, neurogenetics,
genetic counseling, cancer cell biology, molecular pathology,
medical pharmacology, or other related fields. Experience in
hematological malignancy somatic variant classification is
required. Though laboratory techniques are not physically
performed, the incumbent must understand the techniques of
laboratory genetics and genomics (e.g. target capture/amplification
and massively parallel sequencing). Excellent communication and
